Mila

For the last five years in a row, I’ve been lucky enough to capture Mila’s birthday portraits!

She’s turned into quite the young lady, mixed with a little bit of wildness and sass that I absolutely love. We had a blast taking some photos in downtown St. Petersburg between the Dali Museum and the Mahaffey Theater.

Then we drove over to the climbing tree next to the Museum of Fine Arts, and finished off with some ice cream at the Cassis Bakery.

Here are some of my favorites from Mila’s super sweet and fun 5th birthday session!

Marina & Roman

Marina and Roman’s wedding on Sunset Beach in Treasure Island was one of the most unique weddings I’ve ever experienced. These two lovebirds were sweet, truly smitten and glowing with happiness nearly every minute, day and night.

Their bridal party was also a blast to work with. Marina’s bridesmaids were fun — and simply stunning! Just wait until you see the photos we took in the limo ride to the ceremony location! And the silly bunch of groomsmen had me laughing at least a couple dozen times. They couldn’t even stay serious for too long during the group shots!

This wedding was a great combination of abundant love, traditions and out-of-the-box characteristics. From the friend they had sing and play a song on a ukulele to a couple of guests who performed a ballroom dance, all the way to a sparkler exit, I enjoyed capturing such a unique and fun wedding.

Best Places to Elope in Colorado

While a drop-dead gorgeous wedding with all the bells and whistles can be great, it can also get pretty expensive and time consuming. Large elaborate weddings are wonderful, but they are not for everyone.

If you’re someone who isn’t dying to have all the traditional aspects of a wedding day and is looking to have a smaller, more intimate ceremony with the love of your life, why not elope? And what better place to elope than the various jaw-dropping locations across the Colorado landscape?

Check out our ultimate list of places to elope in Colorado, and find the perfect place to say your “I do’s”!

Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs

The striking boulders and red rocks of the Garden of the Gods make a variety of stunning backdrops for an elopement wedding. Not only is this place a registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, but it’s also free and open to the public year-round!

Whether you’re an adventurous couple who love the dry, high-desert look or you both love hiking and rock-climbing, this is a beautiful spot for a small ceremony.

Denver Botanical Gardens, Denver

Looking for the right place to have a spring or summer elopement? Look no further!

The Denver Botanical Gardens are absolutely beautiful, and contain a variety of natural settings and modern designs. From a Garden of the West to gardens inspired by foreign countries, you’re bound to find something you love for an elopement here.

They also have a second location on Chatfield Farms, if you’d like to take a look at that as well!

Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs

Declare your love on the top of the world — or, well, above Colorado Springs, anyway.

Pikes Peak is at over 14,000 feet in elevation and is one of the most visited peaks in North America. Although very popular, it is for good reason. Just check out the view you could have for a mountaintop elopement!

This one is perfect for those who love the mountain air, heights, hiking or adventure in general. You could even take the Cog Railway up to the peak!

Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast, Denver

Looking for something a little closer to the city with a classic/vintage look? Consider eloping at the Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast near Denver’s City Park and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. Built in 1889 and family owned, this building has a a lot to offer for couples looking to elope.

Not only do they offer wedding packages specifically for elopements, you can even have your first honeymoon stay at the B&B!

Hanging Lake Trail, Glenwood Springs

Where the mountains meet the…lake? The Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon is absolutely gorgeous for elopements. Between the lake itself, waterfalls, mountains, cliffs and gardens, there’s few other places in Colorado quite as scenic as this for an intimate ceremony.

Rocky Mountain National Park

If you love the outdoors, hiking, trails, and scenery galore, Rocky Mountain National Park has it all. And with over 415 square miles of land, there are countless areas for you to find and make your own. While some areas along the roads may be crowded during certain times of the year, you can find areas that are a little more intimate and secluded along the hiking trails (over 300 miles in total length!).

Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower, Denver

In the heart of downtown, many know of the building from the outside, but on the inside is a romantic and historic venue just perfect for small events and elopements. This location gives you a little mix of urban flare and vintage, with a spice of modern added in.

Great Sand Dunes National Park

I know, I know . . . desert sands are probably not at the top of your list when it comes to places to elope, but there is something truly unique and daring about them!

If you were to elope at the Great Sand Dunes National Park, try going for a boho, western or ancient times look and feel! You might also want to check out these desert wedding/elopement ideas on Pinterest!

Top 5 Details Your Wedding Photographer Shouldn’t Miss

Any wedding photographer out there should know not to miss the big moments—you know, the first kiss, the first dance, and all the other traditional events you’ll be listing out on your wedding day timeline. But what about the little things, the small details that combine together to truly make your day unique?

When you’re shopping around for the right wedding photographer, be sure to remember these details when looking through their portfolios:

The Rings

One of my favorite items to capture is—of course—the bling! And not just because it’s often beautiful and glamorous.

Your wedding and engagement rings are the perfect symbol of your love that you’ll wear every day for the rest of your lives. They are what you will exchange when you say your vows and promise your love for one another. And, for many couples, the style of the ring itself has purpose.

Are you getting them engraved? Does the shape or color of the engagement ring have a special meaning? Was your ring an heirloom? These are kinds of details that make photographs of wedding rings memorable.

The Personal Touches

Whether you two plan on swapping notes before the ceremony or your grandmother’s locket will be tied to the base of the bouquet, each personal touch is a precious element of the bigger whole. Don’t be afraid to tell your photographer about it all!

Other personal touches your photographer may want to capture include: hand-me-down (borrowed) items, handwritten vows, small day-of gifts from family or friends, and anything DIY.

The Attire and Accessories

…And I’m not just talking about the dress. Everything from the lace pattern on the bodice of your gown and the straps of your heels, to the bowtie and cufflinks the groom will wear, ask your photographer to get some shots of these details. This helps bring out some of the personality and style of your wedding, especially for those not attending to see.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll find your wedding details up on a popular wedding blog or being re-pinned on Pinterest someday!

The First Look

This goes for everyone, not just the couples doing an official first look before the ceremony. The second you see each other is like the peak of an emotional mountain. There may be laughs, grins, tears, or gasps, and you’ll without a doubt want it all captured as one of your favorite keepsakes.

It’s in these quick moments that it’s all about the connection you have for each other, the buildup to this very occasion, and the joy of celebrating your love together.

The Celebration

After you’ve said “I do” and pose with close family and friends for portraits, it’s time to simply let loose and have fun—and your photographer should be a fly on the wall in the best way possible.

They should be seeking to snap shots of the hugs you’ll be getting, the laughs you’ll share as you dance with the bridal party, and dozens of other memories you’ll want to hold onto for years to come.

Raven

Raven and I had a blast with her second underwater session, where we took photos on a somewhat gloomy day, that provided just enough overcast and rain for stunning results. While we took photos of her clownfish mermaid tail in our first underwater session, today we tried out another one with a dreamier mystical look, and I loved the bit of shimmer it offered in the soft light of the day.

Raven is the owner and tail maker of Merbella Studios. She makes everything from mermaid tails and shell bras to head pieces and accessories for mermaids!

Check out some of my favorites from this fun, gorgeous underwater mermaid session.

Lindquist Family

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is seeing families grow over time. I met Amanda a few years back when her son Talan had just turned one. We had a blast taking some photos on the beach of Talan and his older sister Savannah on the beach.

Flash forward to 2016 and Amanda’s family has grown by one more! To celebrate Sadie’s first birthday, we took a few photos of her and the rest of the Lindquist family at Emerson Point Preserve, a beautiful park with fun trails near the water. Take a look at a few of my favorites! <3

Lorena & Juan

I met Lorena about four or five years ago as a coworker at Bank of America. I admired her for her knack at balancing warm and friendliness with professionalism — and the fact that she’s a beautiful person, inside and out.

And about a year ago, when Lorena and Juan became engaged, we enjoyed an engagement session with some sun and sand beach engagement session on Fort De Soto! They even brought their two pups who posed perfectly for a great save-the-date photo.

While I fell in love with their engagement photos, I’m even more in love with the results from their gorgeous DIY-style beach and backyard wedding. We had such perfect weather for a February wedding — breezy and in the mid-70s. And Lorena is my kind of bride: taking a shot of tequila before the ceremony! They put together a beautiful ceremony on Sunset Beach (Treasure Island), and hosted an invitingly warm backyard reception perfectly lit with string lights and candlelight.

The three of us will also likely never forget the few minutes immediately following sunset, when we lost not one, but TWO of their rings on the beach right after taking ring photos! Between the three of us, we managed to track down the rings and laughed our way to the car — thankful all was found and ready to hit up the reception.

The photos below are just a handful of my new favorites. Let us know which ones you love most and feel free to re-pin ones you love! <3

The York Family

Not only did I attend high school with Ashley and Seth, but they are high school sweethearts who have now been together for ten years! Together, they now have a talkative, curious son named Avery, who enjoyed looking at my lenses and asking about my fancy camera.

We had so much fun with their downtown St. Petersburg session, where we walked down one of the most colorful, street-art-filled alleyways before heading over to Beach Drive to get a few more photos in the park. The weather was perfect for a session with some old friends in our beautiful hometown.

Check out my favorites from their downtown St. Pete family session!

Kami & Merissa

You never know who you’ll meet these days, especially with the growth of social media.

I met Kami and her sister Merissa though Instagram. We connected through messenger about doing an underwater session with a great thrift-store find: a wedding dress! Despite being an extremely cold, rainy January day in Florida, we jumped in. It was one of the coldest underwater sessions to-date — and that says a lot after having done a session at Weeki Wachee a few months ago!

We decided to take the dress (along with another thrift-store prom dress) for a swirl underwater. Now, I’ll be dreaming of trash-the-dress sessions for months to come… <3

Samantha

Ever since I tried my first underwater photography session six months ago, I’ve been dreaming of doing an underwater maternity session. And when one of my friends from a class in college announced she was pregnant with her second child, I leaped for the chance and asked if she’d be my first underwater maternity model.

The results were all that I could have hoped for! Take a look at what we were able to create to capture this special moment in her life with the photographs below.
