Jessica & Aaron

I already know this session will forever be one of my all-time favorite engagements for years to come! I met Jessica and Aaron up at Mt. Falcon Park, which overlooks some beautiful hills and even the Red Rocks Amphitheater not too far away.

These two lovebirds were absolutely adorable, and had me laughing several times throughout the session. Even Aaron couldn’t keep a straight face for long, which didn’t bother me at all! Their love (as seen in these images below) is so genuine and I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to capture their engagement photos for them before they head off to Greece in a few weeks for an intimate ceremony — just the two of them!

We were even so lucky enough to have a stunning sunset and a perfect little rainbow to add a little drama to the session. To top it off, Jessica’s ring is to die for, with a beautiful vintage setting and a diamond that radiated everywhere I placed it for a close-up photo! I also loved hearing about their proposal, which happened during a surprise trip to Hawaii! Aaron planned every detail months in advance and proposed in Waipi’o Valley on the steepest road in the world, overlooking the ocean.

Jessica and Aaron met online on Match.com, and their first date involved dinner and margaritas at the Rio Grande in downtown Denver (I knew I liked them for a reason! 😉 ). It’s been a little over two years since then, and they’ve come to love one another for unique and valuable characteristics. Jessica loves Aaron for his sense of humor, hardworking mindset, his heart and honesty — and that he cooks her breakfast on the weekend! And his favorite things about her include her loyalty, her quirky personality, her passion about helping other people, and that she’s not afraid to be silly.
I hope you enjoy glancing through these engagement photos as much as I do! And join me in wishing them an absolutely amazing time on their wedding trip to Santorini! <3

Lindsay & William

I am over-the-moon about this styled elopement up on Mt. Evans! Lindsay and William are an extremely sweet and adorable couple who were absolutely perfect for a mountainside photography session.

We started out taking photos among the trees at the Mount Goliath Natural Area, and finished up with some stunning snow backdrops farther up the mountain at Summit Lake. To top it off, Lindsay even brought her very own handmade flower crown and bouquet filled with soft pink roses! And both of the dresses she wore for this styled session were made by her friend Chelsy (you can find more of Chelsy’s dresses and other fashion work online).

Lindsay and William met in high school, and although they were both extremely shy while running track together, William asked her to the prom! They’ve been together ever since, and their 3rd wedding anniversary is coming up in August.

When asked what their favorite things were about one another, they had the sweetest answers: William said Lindsay’s compassion and heart; Lindsay said his faith, creative abilities and his ability to support her while she aims to achieve her dreams. Together, they have one fur baby named Loki and they love to travel, camp, and hike in their spare time.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!

Wendy

In this blog post I’d love to celebrate Wendy and Kevin’s upcoming wedding anniversary by sharing the gorgeous bride’s trash the dress session at Redington Beach’s fishing pier.

This fun, loving couple are always full of laughs each and every time I see them. And I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to capture their wedding — my first time photographing a wedding (back in 2013!).

Although it’s been a few years since this session, it’s still a gorgeous location and Wendy still tells me how gorgeous she felt during her bridal portraits on the beach. Here are some of my favorites I hope you’ll enjoy!

Want a Non-Traditional Wedding? Elope Instead!

Whether you just got engaged or you’ve been with a partner for several years and are ready to tie the knot, there are a few important things to consider during the first steps of planning a wedding. Are you hoping to go all out for the big day? Or do you both prefer to have a smaller ceremony without all the bells and whistles?

If you and your soon-to-be spouse aren’t entirely sure you want a traditional ceremony and reception, consider eloping with them instead! Discover some of the fun reasons to take this non-traditional route below.

1. You won’t have to wait 6 months, 9 months, or 1 year.

Bigger weddings often require a lot more time, money and planning. Many venues and wedding vendors are booked at least a few months to one year in advance, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you don’t mind waiting. If you’ve found the perfect venue but the next available date from now is in 9 months, maybe you should take it!

However, if you’d prefer to say your vows and seal them with a kiss within the next couple of months, eloping might be the perfect option for you! Many couples who choose to elope prefer to find a local or regional scenic spot, such as a state or national park. Looking for some examples? Check out this list of best places to elope in Colorado!

2. The focus remains solely about the two of you.

That’s right: no family member or friend can steal the spotlight or stress you out on your special day if you elope. Well, that is if you choose not to invite anyone to tag along!

One of my favorite things about elopements is that it is centered around your love for one another and the commitment you are making — nothing (and no one) else. Some people may decide to bring along one or two others to witness it, but many couples keep it just between the two of them! And in states like Colorado, couples can self-solemnize without an officiant even present.

3. You’ll have hundreds of stunning locations to choose from.

Considering the fact that many couples spend over $30,000 for a wedding nowadays, think of how much less you could spend if you elope — even to another state or country if you wish!

And since you won’t have to consider where you’re guests will be visiting from, the options are endless if you want them to be. Italy, France, Hawaii? Why not!

Cherish the Moment Forever with Katogenic’s Elopement Photography Services

I believe every wedding deserves to be photographed in a beautiful, artistic and memorable way. No matter where you choose to go, from the courthouse to the mountaintops, your ceremony is something that ought to be captured in a way that brings you back to that moment in time for years to come.

This is why I’ve created an elopement photography package specifically tailored to those who want a more intimate ceremony captured on camera. Reach out to tell me about your love story or to ask about availability. I look forward to meeting you!

Marina & Roman

Marina and Roman’s wedding on Sunset Beach in Treasure Island was one of the most unique weddings I’ve ever experienced. These two lovebirds were sweet, truly smitten and glowing with happiness nearly every minute, day and night.

Their bridal party was also a blast to work with. Marina’s bridesmaids were fun — and simply stunning! Just wait until you see the photos we took in the limo ride to the ceremony location! And the silly bunch of groomsmen had me laughing at least a couple dozen times. They couldn’t even stay serious for too long during the group shots!

This wedding was a great combination of abundant love, traditions and out-of-the-box characteristics. From the friend they had sing and play a song on a ukulele to a couple of guests who performed a ballroom dance, all the way to a sparkler exit, I enjoyed capturing such a unique and fun wedding.

Best Places to Elope in Colorado

While a drop-dead gorgeous wedding with all the bells and whistles can be great, it can also get pretty expensive and time consuming. Large elaborate weddings are wonderful, but they are not for everyone.

If you’re someone who isn’t dying to have all the traditional aspects of a wedding day and is looking to have a smaller, more intimate ceremony with the love of your life, why not elope? And what better place to elope than the various jaw-dropping locations across the Colorado landscape?

Check out our ultimate list of places to elope in Colorado, and find the perfect place to say your “I do’s”!

Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs

The striking boulders and red rocks of the Garden of the Gods make a variety of stunning backdrops for an elopement wedding. Not only is this place a registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, but it’s also free and open to the public year-round!

Whether you’re an adventurous couple who love the dry, high-desert look or you both love hiking and rock-climbing, this is a beautiful spot for a small ceremony.

Denver Botanical Gardens, Denver

Looking for the right place to have a spring or summer elopement? Look no further!

The Denver Botanical Gardens are absolutely beautiful, and contain a variety of natural settings and modern designs. From a Garden of the West to gardens inspired by foreign countries, you’re bound to find something you love for an elopement here.

They also have a second location on Chatfield Farms, if you’d like to take a look at that as well!

Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs

Declare your love on the top of the world — or, well, above Colorado Springs, anyway.

Pikes Peak is at over 14,000 feet in elevation and is one of the most visited peaks in North America. Although very popular, it is for good reason. Just check out the view you could have for a mountaintop elopement!

This one is perfect for those who love the mountain air, heights, hiking or adventure in general. You could even take the Cog Railway up to the peak!

Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast, Denver

Looking for something a little closer to the city with a classic/vintage look? Consider eloping at the Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast near Denver’s City Park and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. Built in 1889 and family owned, this building has a a lot to offer for couples looking to elope.

Not only do they offer wedding packages specifically for elopements, you can even have your first honeymoon stay at the B&B!

Hanging Lake Trail, Glenwood Springs

Where the mountains meet the…lake? The Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon is absolutely gorgeous for elopements. Between the lake itself, waterfalls, mountains, cliffs and gardens, there’s few other places in Colorado quite as scenic as this for an intimate ceremony.

Rocky Mountain National Park

If you love the outdoors, hiking, trails, and scenery galore, Rocky Mountain National Park has it all. And with over 415 square miles of land, there are countless areas for you to find and make your own. While some areas along the roads may be crowded during certain times of the year, you can find areas that are a little more intimate and secluded along the hiking trails (over 300 miles in total length!).

Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower, Denver

In the heart of downtown, many know of the building from the outside, but on the inside is a romantic and historic venue just perfect for small events and elopements. This location gives you a little mix of urban flare and vintage, with a spice of modern added in.

Great Sand Dunes National Park

I know, I know . . . desert sands are probably not at the top of your list when it comes to places to elope, but there is something truly unique and daring about them!

If you were to elope at the Great Sand Dunes National Park, try going for a boho, western or ancient times look and feel! You might also want to check out these desert wedding/elopement ideas on Pinterest!

Top 5 Details Your Wedding Photographer Shouldn’t Miss

Any wedding photographer out there should know not to miss the big moments—you know, the first kiss, the first dance, and all the other traditional events you’ll be listing out on your wedding day timeline. But what about the little things, the small details that combine together to truly make your day unique?

When you’re shopping around for the right wedding photographer, be sure to remember these details when looking through their portfolios:

The Rings

One of my favorite items to capture is—of course—the bling! And not just because it’s often beautiful and glamorous.

Your wedding and engagement rings are the perfect symbol of your love that you’ll wear every day for the rest of your lives. They are what you will exchange when you say your vows and promise your love for one another. And, for many couples, the style of the ring itself has purpose.

Are you getting them engraved? Does the shape or color of the engagement ring have a special meaning? Was your ring an heirloom? These are kinds of details that make photographs of wedding rings memorable.

The Personal Touches

Whether you two plan on swapping notes before the ceremony or your grandmother’s locket will be tied to the base of the bouquet, each personal touch is a precious element of the bigger whole. Don’t be afraid to tell your photographer about it all!

Other personal touches your photographer may want to capture include: hand-me-down (borrowed) items, handwritten vows, small day-of gifts from family or friends, and anything DIY.

The Attire and Accessories

…And I’m not just talking about the dress. Everything from the lace pattern on the bodice of your gown and the straps of your heels, to the bowtie and cufflinks the groom will wear, ask your photographer to get some shots of these details. This helps bring out some of the personality and style of your wedding, especially for those not attending to see.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll find your wedding details up on a popular wedding blog or being re-pinned on Pinterest someday!

The First Look

This goes for everyone, not just the couples doing an official first look before the ceremony. The second you see each other is like the peak of an emotional mountain. There may be laughs, grins, tears, or gasps, and you’ll without a doubt want it all captured as one of your favorite keepsakes.

It’s in these quick moments that it’s all about the connection you have for each other, the buildup to this very occasion, and the joy of celebrating your love together.

The Celebration

After you’ve said “I do” and pose with close family and friends for portraits, it’s time to simply let loose and have fun—and your photographer should be a fly on the wall in the best way possible.

They should be seeking to snap shots of the hugs you’ll be getting, the laughs you’ll share as you dance with the bridal party, and dozens of other memories you’ll want to hold onto for years to come.

Evan & Billy

Evan and I have a mutual best friend, Kelsey, through whom we met about ten years ago. We used to spend a decent chunk of our teenage days hanging out by the pool at Kelsey’s place, laughing the night away.

I was beyond excited when Evan told me she wanted me to capture their wedding day — creating these keepsake images for those I’ve known for years means the world to me. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to witness these two lovebirds join together in such a beautiful ceremony (and celebration!). This day was filled with laughter, joy, dancing and happy tears, and I know they have many wonderful years ahead of them. From her gorgeous dress and the groomsmen’s superhero socks, to the grand sparkler exit, this was a wedding Evan’s dreams brought to life.

Lorena & Juan

I met Lorena about four or five years ago as a coworker at Bank of America. I admired her for her knack at balancing warm and friendliness with professionalism — and the fact that she’s a beautiful person, inside and out.

And about a year ago, when Lorena and Juan became engaged, we enjoyed an engagement session with some sun and sand beach engagement session on Fort De Soto! They even brought their two pups who posed perfectly for a great save-the-date photo.

While I fell in love with their engagement photos, I’m even more in love with the results from their gorgeous DIY-style beach and backyard wedding. We had such perfect weather for a February wedding — breezy and in the mid-70s. And Lorena is my kind of bride: taking a shot of tequila before the ceremony! They put together a beautiful ceremony on Sunset Beach (Treasure Island), and hosted an invitingly warm backyard reception perfectly lit with string lights and candlelight.

The three of us will also likely never forget the few minutes immediately following sunset, when we lost not one, but TWO of their rings on the beach right after taking ring photos! Between the three of us, we managed to track down the rings and laughed our way to the car — thankful all was found and ready to hit up the reception.

The photos below are just a handful of my new favorites. Let us know which ones you love most and feel free to re-pin ones you love! <3

Angelo & Sterling

For those of you who don’t already know me personally, here is a little backstory. I work at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, where I work in the marketing department — mainly focusing on the University’s website content and strategy, social media platforms and photography for event promotion/coverage.

Ever since I began my position back in late May, I have been in love with the fountain behind the campus building. Between the beautiful early morning/late evening light, the sprouting water and the blooming bougainvillea, it is a perfect spot for some unique portraits. Recently, when my co-worker Angelo proposed to his partner Sterling, I suggested taking photos for their engagement on campus. The results are simply beautiful.

Love is love is love is love.
